Exciting. Alluring. Magical. These three words embody the special sounds
of guitarist Nick Colionne. Like a master chef serving a sweet pastry made
from scratch using the finest ingredients, Nick’s tunes satisfy our
hunger for good music.
Many performances and thousands of fans later, he has come into his own.
His Wes Montgomery inspired sound has put the industry on notice that he
is a force to be reckoned with. This emerging jazz giant produced three
CD’s over a five year period. Colionne’s debut CD “It’s
My Turn” (1994) was released to rave reviews as were “Arrival” (1996)
and “The Seduction”. Nick recently joined the chart-topping
roster of Washington, DC based Three Keys Music and is working on his forthcoming
album entitled, “Just Come On In”. He has shared the headline
bill with Ramsey Lewis and the Benoit-Freeman Project (David Benoit/Russ
Freeman) at Chicago’s Navy Pier, headlining with Richard Elliot at
the city of Chicago’s Winterfest and touring on his own.
He has played at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, Cobo Arena in Detroit,
the London Palladium, The Los Angeles Forum, the Arie Crown Theatre, The
Vic and Riviera in Chicago. His presence lit up jazz festivals such as
North Sea, Elkhart, Milwaukee and The Newport News. International touring
followed in Switzerland, UK, Germany, Bahamas, Japan, Italy, Holland and
Canada. The Chicago based legend has also shared the stage with such notables
as the Impressions, Curtis Mayfield, The Staples Singers, Natalie Cole
and has written for Paul Anka and Johnnie Mathis. He recently played Taste
of Chicago for the third time and played at the Democratic National Convention
for President Clinton. Outside of the purely musical realm, Colionne also
appeared as an actor in the Goodman Theater's award-winning play Spunk.
Colionne is an international jazz guitar endorsee for Epiphone Guitars,
as well as Gibson Strings and Accessories. Honored in 1996 with the "Alumnus
of the Year Award" from Malcolm X College in Chicago, Colionne has
been heavily involved in music and personal mentorship programs in K-8
education.
Nick grew up on Chicago’s west side and started learning his craft
under the tutelage of his stepfather Edward at age 9. He was touring professionally
by the time he was 15 years old
